User questions & answers
Question: | Will this adhere to chrome motorcycle exhaust pipes |
Answer: | No! will not stick to chrome..best bet is a Jet Hot Coating from a powder coater.. This stuff does not hold up well under high heat conditions, will flake off at the hot bends of pipes |
Question: | For inside tubing on exaust manifold, is primer application sufficient for protection without , color, VHT paint coatings |
Answer: | I think it is. I have used this primer ONLY on the exhaust of one of our cars. Curing is tricky. Have to follow istructions on the primer can. |
Question: | Can I use this on a firepit to prevent rust |
Answer: | Yes but any paint will do that as long as you clean the rust off . All your doing is keeping the water and air from getting to the raw metal . The high tempPaint has to be bake in an oven to 600*F |
Question: | can this be used for arts and crafts to and not just cars |
Answer: | I don't see why you couldn't use this for other applications but if your not going to be heating your crafts to over 1000* why would you need a high heat clear coat. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone sprayed a fire pit yet? Curious how well it handles direct flame and if it would still be safe for smores and things |
Answer: | It will burn off |
Question: | can you use this to coat steel rods and use a cooking surface |
Answer: | If you mean to coat something to cook food on, I would certainly not recommend that. This paint spays better than any spray paint I have used but I am sure that VHT would not recommend contact with food, especially at high temperature. I would not recommend using any paint to cook food on. |
Question: | How long can VHT102 paint be on surface before curing process starts |
Answer: | None of these answers are accurate. VHT Flame-proof paints require the user to cure the paint by applying heat in a baking style. If you are applying the paint to an object that you've removed from the vehicle: (1) Let paint dry completely. (2) Heat to 250°F for 30 minutes. (3) Cool for 30 minutes. (4) Heat to 400°F for 30 minutes. (5) Cool for 30 minutes. (6) Heat to 650°F for 30 minutes. If you can't fit the part that you're painting in the oven, then you'll have to put it back on the vehicle and follow the instructions for curing the paint while on your vehicle: (1) Let paint dry completely. (2) Run at idle for 10 minutes. (3) Cool for 20 minutes. (4) Run at idle for 20 minutes. (5) Cool for 20 minutes. (6) Run under normal operating conditions for 30 minutes. And there you go. Question: | Would a engine with a bad motor mount or two affect the curing process |
Answer: | Unless your motor mounts are extremely bad I.E. your whole engine shakes around like an unbalanced washing machine, then it should not affect the curing process. If they are in fact that bad, then you should probably fix that before applying wet paint and attempting to cure it with a massive vibrator. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this paint UV resistant? I am worried that it may fade if frequently exposed to direct sunlight |
Answer: | The epoxy will do very well with UV. It is not a uv resistant product specifically. |
Question: | will this paint go on over previously painted surfaces without removing the underlying paint |
Answer: | Yes, but like using any paint in this situation you should first sand the old paint to break the surface, this gives a better bond and use a good cleaner/degreaser to wipe the part down with to remove any contamination that might hinder the bonding of the new paint to the old surface. I like to add a good self etching primer first. This gives an even better layer of protection and clean bonding surface. |
Question: | can this be used on wood |
Answer: | As a model maker I could see using this on some boats or, planes. I would however first use a good sander filler, sand to the desired finish required prior to spray painting. Depending on the hardness and porosity of the wood second and sometimes even three or more coats of sander filler may be needed prior to apply this top coat. If you are painting a previously varnished or painted surface you should test spray to see if there wil be any reaction between paints. There are some basic rules concerning enamels vs lacquers vs epoxies you should know. |
Question: | Can this be used on chrome |
Answer: | Sure, but it won't stay there. Chrome is extremely dense, and unless you are willing to sand it to the point where you can achieve mechanical adhesion, any paint will flake right off. If you need to cover a plated surface, sand it with 80 grit sandpaper with a DA sander, use an appropriate epoxy based sand-able primer, sand the primed surface with 220 grit, then apply the black epoxy. This produce is quite durable, but as with all paints only if the surface is prepped properly. |

Question: | can i use this on my brake calipers |
Answer: | Yes. I've used it on my brake calipers and it works great. Depending on how much you drive you may have to touch it up to keep it bright every so often but that's going to happen regardless of what paint you use because brake dust, etc. I use this because its high temperature. |
Question: | Is it OK to use a gray primer and then use a hot pink paint over top of the gray |
Answer: | Primer of any kind will be good for a nice finish for whatever you are painting. I recommend 3 light coats of primer lightly sanded in between. When getting ready to apply you engine paint, beware, this is thick paint. It has heavy particulate matter which is the paint. I recommend that you turn the paint can upside down for 3 to 4 hours. This paint settles heavily. After several hours upside down, shake violently to get it mixed well. After that don't spray too close to your target surface. Do not spray at any temp less than 72 degrees fahrenheit, and spray evenly side to side about 5 to 6 inches, from surface. |
