2 best engine coolant

Engine coolant, often referred to as antifreeze, is a vital automotive fluid used to regulate the temperature of an internal combustion engine. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the engine's operating temperature within a safe and efficient range. Here's what you need to know about engine coolant:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of engine coolant is to manage and control the temperature of the engine. It prevents the engine from overheating in hot conditions and from freezing in cold conditions.

  2. Composition: Engine coolant is typically a mixture of water and antifreeze. The antifreeze component is usually ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, which lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point of the mixture. Additionally, coolant may contain additives to protect against corrosion and scale buildup.

  3. Cooling System: Coolant circulates through the engine's cooling system, which includes the radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, and the engine itself. It absorbs heat from the engine and transfers it to the radiator, where the heat is dissipated into the surrounding air.

  4. Antifreeze Properties: In cold weather, engine coolant prevents the water in the engine's cooling system from freezing, which could cause damage. The antifreeze component lowers the freezing point, allowing the coolant to remain in a liquid state even at very low temperatures.

  5. Boiling Point: Engine coolant also raises the boiling point of water, which helps prevent the coolant from boiling and turning into vapor in hot conditions. This is crucial for maintaining the cooling system's efficiency.

  6. Corrosion Protection: Coolant contains additives that protect the various components of the cooling system from corrosion. Over time, corrosion can lead to leaks and other cooling system problems.

  7. Scale and Deposit Prevention: Engine coolant also contains additives that inhibit the formation of scale and deposits within the cooling system. These deposits can reduce the efficiency of the system and cause blockages.

  8. Maintenance: It's important to regularly check the coolant level and condition in your vehicle. Coolant should be replaced at the intervals recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual or by the manufacturer. Periodic checks can help prevent overheating and cooling system problems.

  9. Types of Coolants: There are different types of engine coolants, including traditional green coolant (ethylene glycol-based), orange or pink coolant (usually extended-life or long-life coolants), and others. It's essential to use the type of coolant recommended by your vehicle's manufacturer to avoid compatibility issues.

  10. Coolant Color: The color of engine coolant is not always an indicator of its type or brand. It's best to refer to the vehicle's manual or consult with a mechanic to determine the appropriate coolant for your specific vehicle.

In summary, engine coolant, or antifreeze, is a crucial fluid in the automotive cooling system. It regulates engine temperature, prevents freezing and boiling, protects against corrosion and scale buildup, and requires regular maintenance to ensure proper engine performance and longevity. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the type and replacement interval of coolant for your vehicle.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo and 2003 toyota corolla ce
Answer: Yes, but it will be much more expensive than mass market automotive coolants. Most other coolants are ethylene glycol (EG), this is propylene glycol(PG). This (Engine Ice) coolant is more environmentally friendly and does work a little better for cooling. I use it in my motorcycle for track use because most tracks ban EG - because EG's toxic and slick if spilled on the track. If you use this, flush your old system as thoroughly as possible with demineralized or distilled water to avoid diluting this new coolant with left over EG. Look up PG and EG on Google to see other pros and cons...
Question: Do i have to do a flush, or is this coolant okay to be mix
Answer: Iit is diffent than regular coolant. I flushed with water and then added. See one is propylene glycol and the other may be ethylene glycol. I believe engine ice is propylene glycol.
Question: Does this come prediluted
Answer: As previously stated, Engine Ice is prediluted. I own a Honda CRF450X and one container was more than enough for my bike.
Question: Can I use this in my 2009 Yamaha fz6r
Answer: Yes. I actually called Yamaha Headquarters before putting it in my 07 Yamaha R1 just to be sure that it was safe. Yamaha said they can't recommend it as they have their own product line but it's completely safe to use. I'm extremely pleased with it myself, my bike runs 20° cooler now, I kid you not. It's been great for me so far and I put it in approx 3 months ago or so. Go for it, you won't be disappointed. Flush the old fluid out with DISTILLED water until it comes out as clear as possible then put the engine ice in. I would def purchase again.
