13 best engine oil treatments
Engine oil treatments, also known as oil additives, are products designed to enhance or modify the properties of engine oil. These additives are formulated to improve the performance, protection, and longevity of the engine. It's important to note that while some people find these additives beneficial, others argue that high-quality motor oils already contain the necessary additives, and additional treatments may not be necessary.
Here are some common types of engine oil treatments:
Oil Stabilizers:
- Oil stabilizers are designed to improve the viscosity and stability of the engine oil, especially under extreme temperatures. They can help reduce oil consumption and minimize wear on engine components.
Friction Modifiers:
- These additives aim to reduce friction between moving parts, which can enhance fuel efficiency and reduce heat generated by friction. They often contain substances like molybdenum and graphite.
Anti-Wear Additives:
- Anti-wear additives are formulated to protect engine components from wear and tear. They create a protective film on metal surfaces, reducing friction and preventing metal-to-metal contact.
Detergents and Dispersants:
- Detergents and dispersants help keep the engine clean by preventing the formation of sludge, varnish, and deposits. They work by suspending and dispersing contaminants, allowing them to be trapped by the oil filter.
Corrosion Inhibitors:
- Corrosion inhibitors are added to engine oil to protect metal surfaces from rust and corrosion. This is especially important in engines that may be subjected to harsh conditions or extended periods of inactivity.
Seal Swell Additives:
- These additives are designed to condition and rejuvenate engine seals, helping to prevent or reduce oil leaks. They can be beneficial for older engines with worn or hardened seals.
Foam Inhibitors:
- Foam inhibitors are used to prevent excessive foaming of the oil.Excessive foam can lead to poor lubrication, as the air bubbles may not carry the same protective qualities as the oil itself.
It's crucial to follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding the use of oil treatments. In some cases, adding certain additives might void the warranty, so it's essential to check the vehicle's owner's manual. Additionally, using the right type and grade of motor oil for your vehicle is fundamental, as the oil itself often contains a balanced blend of additives to meet the engine's requirements.
While some drivers may choose to use oil treatments to address specific issues or enhance performance, it's recommended to consult with a qualified mechanic or adhere to the vehicle manufacturer's guidelines to ensure compatibility and effectiveness.

User questions & answers
Question: | Whats better this or the lucas oil stabilizer |
Answer: | From my experience, the stop leak in this product can cause oil to turn to a gel inside the engine, so inherently the lucas oil stabilizer would be better. STP oil treatment contains ZDDP, which is an anti-wear additive that is missing from newer oils and essential for non-roller cam engines. The lucas product documentation claims it is 100% petroleum, so I would not expect any additives like that. I would recommend the standard blue container STP oil treatment, that does not contain stop leak, due to its additional anti-wear additive. Other than that, they both indicate they work by increasing the viscosity rating of your oil. |
Question: | Can I put this in my engine with marvel mystery oil my truck only takes 5qt of 5w |
Answer: | Yes, but you should read the percentages of what you are adding as to not dilute the motor oil too much. Marvel should be like 1 oz per quart, adding STP is the same as almost 1/2 quart. |
Question: | The product oil stop like its work for Mercedes stop smoking |
Answer: | It will not stop smoking, but will help seal oil leaks and reduce oil consumption. |
Question: | Can this product be used with a car that uses synthetic oil |
Answer: | Yes it can |

Frequently Asked Questions:
Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate starts working the minute you install and start driving the vehicle to help remove harmful gum, sludge, and deposits from your engine.
How does Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate work?
Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate gradually dissolves and removes harmful deposits of varnish, sludge and gum from the internal metal parts without plugging oil passages. These deposits form within engines and can alter tolerances, stick valves and rings, cause noisy valves and lifters, and plug oil screens and passages. Regular use of Rislone Engine Treatment, with oil and filter changes at the proper intervals, will keep such deposits to a minimum.
How much Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate do I install?
One bottle of 4102 Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate 16.9 oz. is designed to treat 4 to 6 quarts of oil. For larger systems, stationary engines and diesel trucks, use 1 bottle for every 5 quarts of oil capacity. For severely dirty engines, use 2 bottles (double dosage) of Rislone Engine Treatment Concentrate and change the oil and filter after 100 miles of driving.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this anti-friction in my vw gti 2.0 fsi engine |
Answer: | Just an FYI the VW FSI engine is noisy because it’s early Dorect injection technology. The noise from that engine is mostly from loud injectors and hpfp fuel pump. Also the n80 valve can make a ticking noise as well. This product will help in terms of lubrication but if you’re hopes are to make it less noisy then it won’t do much |
Question: | Do you have to make room for this when changing oil or you can add it to a full tank of oil |
Answer: | If your following how much quarts your manual says your fine. On my rav4 I added 1 can of this and 1 can of ceratec, my oil level did not change much. I also did the same thing on my Challenger 5.7 but instead I did about 1 can and plus half of another can. Your fine as long as you follow your engine capacity. |
Question: | do u use this every oil change or like every 25- 30,000 miles like the other liqui moly oil treatment |
Answer: | I change my engine oil every 10,000 km or 6,250 miles with Liqui Moly engine oil and use the Anti friction Oil treatment every time and every 2nd oil change I also use Ceratec. My Audi A4 B7 quattro 3.2L V6 has over 300,000 km. I have another A6 Avant with over 275,000 miles or 440,000 km. I always use Liqui Moli otherwise I will use Revenol Syn oil. |
Question: | What is this compared to Restore engine treatment |
Answer: | it is much better. Graphite is not near as dense or strong as molybdenum. It also can resist higher temps and last longer on the engine before replacement (about 12,000 miles). Prius owners are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to use this as their engines come with moly coat on the cylinders already to deal with start stop technology (which reduces the oil layer between engine parts when the engine stops). As far as anti friction and cylinder sealing goes, it would be zddp (doesnt seal, just reduced friction), graphites (seals and reduces friction, weak), moly (does the same much better), HBN (hexagonal boron nitrate, which is way better than moly), and tungsten disulphide (better than any of the others for sealing and reducing friction. lasts a long time, withstands extreme temps). graphite, moly, HBN and tungsten disulphide are in whats called the graphene family. They do restore damage and reduce friction. They are all apart of the same molecular family. Restore, this product, ceracote, and any product labeled ws2 (tungsten disulfide) will all do the same things, but with different effectiveness. Just look up graphenes online to see how they work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would a gallon-container of psl15000 remain effective if stored and used bit-by-bit over the course of umpteen years |
Answer: | The prolong super L is designed to be added to the engine oil and remain effective until the next oil change; then discarded of course with the old oil; having fulfilled its purpose. It would seem prudent to use as directed. |
Question: | Can this be used in a air compressor |
Answer: | Funny you should ask this. I put a small amount in my small compressor sometime ago and have had no problems.( I work with plastics). I have used Prolong oil and transmission products for many , many years and swear that the product is and does EXACTLY as stated. I have given these products to friends and family for gifts. I always tell them when they have the oil or transmission fluids changed. NOT to give the Prolong to the mechanic unless they are trusted. Put the product in YOURSELF!. I always do this myself. I drive a 1996 Ford Explorer 4x4 with now 235k miles. Still has plenty of power for a 6 cyl. I'm sure the compressor would love a SMALL amount . |
Question: | It is safe to use in a Scion Tc |
Answer: | Safe for any oil lubricated engine, I watched an engine with it in it. Drained of oil while running and 2 hours later it was still running. |
Question: | Is it can also be used in diesel engine |
Answer: | I have been using it in my 7.3 diesel engine since it had 30,000 miles. I now have about 500,000 miles on my truck. I think it works great! |

Question: | How do you use this product |
Answer: | I use it in place of one quart of oil at oil change. I use this on all of my non-synthetic oil vehicles, and the synthetic Lucas in my cars (Cadillacs) that use synthetic oil. I am a drag racer and I use it with race oil in all engines I own. Once you see the insides of one of your high-mileage or severe condition engines that has been using Lucas additive, you'll be a believer like me. I use Lucas break-in additive in all new engines. That's how strongly I feel about Lucas products. |
Question: | I have a toyota corolla. i just got the oil changed so i don't want to drain it. how much should i add to the oil |
Answer: | I would add half....then wait 1500 and add the other half....you can top off with it. I prefer to use it in the summer because today's manufacturers recommend such thin oils such as 0W-20.... |

User questions & answers
Question: | It's good to put it before fill up or after |
Answer: | Dump it in at the pump before filling up. That way the fuel rushing into the tank will mix it in rather than dumping it in after filling. Eventually it'll attain uniform mixture but dump then pump will mix it right away. |
Question: | I can run Sea Foam in the crankcase along with my oil at all times or just as a cleaner prior to changing the oil |
Answer: | It says right on the bottle, you can add it in the crankcase 100-300 miles right BEFORE oil change. |
Question: | how does it do in motor oil |
Answer: | I just used Sea Foam in my oil for the first time. I have a 50 year old car with its original, never-rebuilt motor. The lifters have been tapping for awhile so I thought it was worth a try. I added Sea Foam to the crankcase oil according to the directions (1.5 oz. per quart of oil). I let the motor run for about 15 minutes. The lifter noise went away almost immediately. Afterwards, I changed the oil as normal. When I drained the old oil, it was noticeably thinner due to the presence of the Sea Foam. I added new oil and filter, and the engine runs like a top now. No more noise. This stuff is great. |
Question: | This item (Sea Foam Motor Tune-Up) oil additives? Or fuel additives |
Answer: | seafoam is mainly a fuel system cleaner and it does work well. as for your oil, it acts as a cleaner also, targeting sticky valves, dirty port holes , dirty lifter issues etc |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this listing correct as a 12 pack of 16 oz bottles for a total of 192 fluid ounces |
Answer: | It is junk. Killed my high mileage engine 50 miles after I added the prescribed amount to my oil change. Lucas oil did NOTHING to help or explain why. Recommend not using this product. |
Question: | Should i use this in a new car that i bought in sept 2020 and has 2k miles on it |
Answer: | I have a 2020 gmc Denali and I used it after my first oil change. I will continue to use it after every oil change. I also use in my 2007 hummer h3. |
Question: | Would this fix a low egr flow check engine light |
Answer: | That is question I cannot answer, but I have not had a problem such as this since using the products. |
Question: | I have a 6.4 liter power stroke. Does this stuff really work? And what exactly does it do? Is it like the sea foam |
Answer: | It can be used in gas and diesel fuel, once ounce per quart of oil in crankcase at anytime to increase lubricity and. Allow for longer oil life. It helps clean fuel system and motor inside. There is a video online by morgan Lucas that gives good info. Biggest difference versus the other brands is this contains no alcohol. I use in all my oil changes on 2015 ram, 1991 wrangler, 2014 Corolla and recently 1966 289 and boat and mowers all with excellent results. Preferred product to use in Powerstroke would be synthetic oil stabilizer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have to change your oil do use it |
Answer: | Well, you do not; but you might consider it or wait until your oil change. Though you don't have to do it, S-50 lengthens the oil life and coats engine parts, so you might want to add it at your oil change, unless you just changed it in say 500 to 1000 miles. However, if you want to add it to dirty oil, it will not hurt...your choice. |
Question: | Can i use it for 0w oil |
Answer: | I am using it with 0W oil. Seems to be ok. |
Question: | Will this work for 2013 dodge ram 1500 4.7 engine |
Answer: | It should work most any gasoline engine. Do not over fill the oil crank-case. Helps best for me for the cold winter mornings when start-ups are these noticed. This stuff does not fix anything, but it seems to help with engine cold starts. |
Question: | Anyone use this to stop oil leaks ? Did it work |
Answer: | I had an old Toyota with oil leaks. I used Slick50 for many years and it didn't effect the leaks at all. But it was a 20+ year old car. I don't think the stuff is made for repairing leaks, anyway, once they're there. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this really quiet my engine lifter tick noise? I have a V8 car |
Answer: | I would think it all depends on the reason the lifer or engine is ticking. If the lifter is ticking from dirty or plugged oil passages being this is designed to clean things up you may experience less or no more tick. If the noise is from actual valve or lifter / engine damage ( from over heating etc) or from valve trains that require regular adjustments and that service has not been done, I would not expect any oil product would fix that. However, based on the many positive reviews suggesting this product has helped valve tick and based on the low price of this product I myself would give it a shot before attempting an expensive engine repair. |
Question: | What is the different with this oil? Rislone 4102 Yellow Engine Treatment Concentrate - 16.9 oz |
Answer: | Same amount of chemicals but in less fluid. Just use it and make sure your oil level is good and you'll be fine. |
Question: | Will this quiet noisy valves |
Answer: | If the cause isn't developing mechanical issues, like a bent push rod or low oil pressure. I have been using it for years. |
Question: | if my oil is at the full level, can i still add this |
Answer: | NO. The concentrate (Rislone 4102 Yellow Engine Treatment Concentrate - 16.9 oz.) would be the one to use if your oil level is full or near full. From (Rislone) FAQ: "How much Rislone Engine Treatment do I install? One bottle of 100QR Rislone Engine Treatment 1 quart (32 oz.) is designed to treat 4 to 6 quarts of oil, this allows you to replace a quart of motor oil at oil change time. You can also use it to "top off" yoursystem between oil changes. Do NOT overfill. For larger systems, stationary engines and diesel trucks, use at 20% of engine oil capacity. Question: | Will this eliminate the blue smoke out of my vehicle |
Answer: | Blue smoke indicates oil burning. The question is how is the oil getting into the combustion chamber. Most times it's due to valve seals, but it could also be due to worn cylinder walls, bad rings or a head gasket failure. 1. Valve seals problem solution. Replace the valve seals - could be an expensive fix. Or try some chemical to swell the seals, but it's not a permanent fix. 2. Worn cylinder walls solution. This could work, as long as the wear isn't too bad. Restore will fill in some of the scratches in the cylinder and reduce the blue smoke - maybe even eliminate it. 3. Bad rings solution. Try running some engine cleaner through the fuel - Seafoam is a good one to try. If the rings are sticking, you may get lucky and it could clear up the problem. 4. Head gasket solution. If there's no white smoke coming out, then only oil is leaking past the head gasket. The only fix is to replace the head gasket, which is costly. I hope this helps. |

CERA TEC is a high-tech ceramic wear protection product for all motor oils. CERA TEC reduces friction and wear due to ceramic compounds that withstand extremely high chemical and thermal loads. Prevents direct metal-to-metal contact, thus increasing the engine service life. The low-friction effect reduces fuel consumption in gasoline and diesel engines. CERA TEC provides wear protection for engines, transmissions, pumps and compressors. CERA TEC should be added to the oil and is self-mixing. Sufficient for 5 liters of motor oil. Provides protection up to 50,000 km. Not suitable for use with wet clutches.
- Mixable with all commercially available motor oils
- Stable even under high thermal and dynamic permanent loads
- No deposits and absolutely compatible with all commonly used filter systems
- Resists extremely high and low temperatures

Question: | Will this be compatible with a ford 1.5 eco boost (turbo) motor in a 2016 fusion? will adding this void the warranty |
Answer: | I use this additive with the oil change on my FORD EXPEDITION using MOBIL 1 Synthetic oil. It will not void the warranty as long as you don't mention that you used it .It is a very expensive process using a mass spectrometer and a atomic absorption analyzer to prove that an additive was used . Us it .I have found dramatic improvements in engine performance. |
Question: | I already used one can but my audi S5 3l takes 6.2l of engine oil. I ordered another can, should I pour it all in? Are there any issues with overfill |
Answer: | Think about what you're saying. If one can is designed and tested to work with 5 liters, 2 cans would work properly with 10 liters. You do not have 10 liters of oil which means you will have too much additive in the system. Even the best additive in the world, is still an additive. Not enough additive is better than not enough oil in the mix. Also this stuff lasts for 30,000 miles. So save your new can, do a few oil changes, add the new can with oil a couple changes down the road. |
Question: | How long should you leave it in your oil before changing the oil |
Answer: | Sorry for the delay. Cera Tec is going to work in the friction system for 30.000 miles . But you are going to change the oil as always you do. Before use Cera Tec,use a Liqui Moly Valve Clean in one full fuel tank, then change the oil and after use Cera Tec. |
Question: | Is this a product that has to be used at every oil change? How does it perform with Mobil 1 EP |
Answer: | I use only mobil 1 products. I use this in two deisel engines one dodge one Mercedes, and gasoline Ferrari 360. No issues at all make them all run quieter and smoother. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much do you use per 5quarts of oil |
Answer: | Per Tufoil site: We recommend 8 ounces of Tufoil as an initial treatment when you change your oil. (This would be for the standard 4-5 quart crankcase…less for smaller engines.) After this initial treatment, just 4-ounces of Tufoil added to the crankcase at each oil change is sufficient. The basic guideline would be 2 ounces for each quart as an initial treatment and 1 ounce per quart at each oil change after that. IF THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE I was advised by developer to allow for 8-10,000 miles of break-in before treating. You can call them with any questions and they are really great! https://www.fluoramics.com/tufoil/tufoil-for-engines/ |
Question: | Is this an oil additive, and if so, is an oil change required after application |
Answer: | It's an additive (or enhancer) and should be added at a rate of one ounce of Tufoil per quart of oil at each oil change, after an initial treatment of two ounces per quart (one 8-oz bottle for a normal crankcase the first time you use it). |
Question: | Is this safe for Automatic transmissions or only Manuals |
Answer: | From the Tufoil web site FAQ:"Should I use Tufoil in my transmission?Tufoil is too slippery to use in automatic transmissions. The oils in them need to be a bit grabby or the clutches won't work properly. In manual transmissions, about one part Tufoil in ten parts high-grade transmission oil will make them run cooler and shift smoother."J.S. (member of the Tufoil 250,000 mile club) |
Question: | can this be used in new cars |
Answer: | Dont use on brand new cars....i would wait till after 2nd oil change |
