They are the latch housing which is constructed of aluminum and the latch pin which slides in and out of the housing to engage the mounting rail which is attached to the truck body. What I call the latch pin appears to be made of nylon or some form of plastic. The latch assembly seems to be quite adequate for the purpose it serves.
