Fulton's Fold-Away Bolt-On Hinge Kits convert standard trailer tongues to convenient fold-away configurations while preserving the existing coupler. Easy to install, bolt-on hinge kit includes installation hardware and detailed instructions. Use with steel tongues only.

Simple Installation with Standard Tools

If you can measure, cut, drill, and torque, you can install this kit. Engineered for hassle-free installation using tools you already have in your garage or shop.

Measure and Mark Cut Line

Measure from the center of coupler ball pocket the desired swing length back and mark. Be certain the mark is at least 5” from any obstruction (i.e. winch stand, jack bracket, etc.). Using a square, scribe a line around trailer tongue to indicate cut location.

Cut Trailer Tongue

Remove all wiring and brake lines from the trailer tongue so they are not cut or damaged during installation. Cut trailer tongue along scribe line, being certain to follow all safety and operating guidelines of products used. Remove sharp edges or burrs.

Install Safety Chains

Measure 4” from cut end of tongue and mark. Measure 1” up from bottom and mark. At line intersections, use centerpunch to mark drill locations for safety chain bolts. Drill to 1/2”. Secure safety chains using two 1/2” bolts and locknuts. Torque to 45 ft-lbs.

Mark Drilling Points

Place “male casting” on trailer tongue until tube meets the stops inside the casting making sure it is straight then secure with clamp. Use transfer punch to mark hole locations on trailer tongue, top and bottom. With centerpunch, expand locator marks for drilling.

Drill Holes

Remove casting and drill 1/8” holes at centermarks. Be sure to drill square to the trailer tongue, one side at a time. Increase the 1/8” diameter holes to 1/4” holes then 3/8” then final 1/2" diameter. Carefully remove metal shavings and burrs.

Install Hinge Castings

Replace male casting over trailer tongue then loosely attach the special shoulder bolts and flange nuts. Tighten all eight fasteners with 3/4” box end wrench and T55 Torx bit. Torque each shoulder bolt to 75 ft-lbs. Repeat process for swing tongue.

Connect Tongue to Trailer

Attach swing tongue to trailer tongue by mating castings together. Apply light grease to 5/8” pivot bolt. Secure through the castings with 5/8” locknut and torque to 50 ft-lbs. Pivot Swing tongue to ensure system works correctly.

Insert Locking Pin

Route trailer wiring through the trailer section and into the swing tongue. Reattach any ground wires removed during installation. Close swing tongue and lock into place with hinge pin. Ensure that the hairpin cotter is in place through the hinge pin.

Answer:	The depth of the space inside the fender is the same at top and bottom.

Answer:	I simply drill thru the inside lip and into the trailers frame, suing 5/16" bolts and washers with lock washers and nuts of course. Hold it in position, clamp it in place, mark your holes, drill and bolt. Obviously you'll need to jack up the trailer and remove the tire first. Hope this helps.

Answer:	On this Ironton Personal Watercraft and Boat Trailer Kit the angle of the bunk boards are adjustable. There are 2 bolts to fix each bunk to the bunk support. You can loosen the bolt and put the bunks flat or the desired angle, then fasten the bolt.
Question:	I have a 17 foot aluminum boat will it work
Answer:	I have converted the trailer to carry my 17 foot canoe by replacing the tongue with a longer one. The canoe hangs over the rear 3 feet which works with a canoe, but perhaps not with a boat. Also, the canoe only weighs 75 pounds.
Question:	I have a double sit kayak 13.5 ft. Does it fit
Answer:	It will fit, but it will definitely hang out over the back by 3 or 4 feet. I suppose that is no big deal, but you should be aware of that. I used mine for a 16 ft canoe, but it hung off the back by about 6 ft, even after moving the front stop bar as far forward as possible. So I bought a 10 ft piece of steel tube and used it instead of the 5 or 6 ft tongue that comes with it. That allowed me to adjust it so my 16 ft canoe did not hang 6 foot over the back. Also, notice the two carpet covered boards? They are flat and straight, so they don't fit the curvature of the hull very well . . . just contacting at arc point of the hull . . . again, no big deal, but when it sits in the hot sun all day, the weight of the canoe pushes the floor of the hull up to conform to the flat boards. I may make some modifications for that. Also note there is no front roller for the bow to rest on. I had to buy a roller and make a bracket to support the front of the canoe. I also put a rubber V stopper on the front vertical stop bar. Finally, I added two brackets to the back to hold a strap . . . painted the whole thing black with silver wheels and put two BMW logo's on the wheel bearings just for fun. Otherwise, very happy with the trailer. Good Luck!

Answer:	They are flexible, as in "not brittle" but not in the sense I think you mean. I don't think that they would flex lengthwise because of the rigidity of the back wall of the fender which is hard to see in the pictures.

Answer:	The brown wire on the trailer lighting is for tell light license and side markers. The yellow wire on the side marker light connect to the brown wire on the trailer. The gray wire only side marker is grounded to the trailer frame.

Answer:	Yes the amber clearance lights have both a wire for your + and one for the ground. So you will have to use the blue splice connector for your positive and then unfortunately you will have to fasten a ring terminal on the ground wire and connect it to the frame. Or do what I did and used my own butt connectors and some extra wire to extend the positive and ground to the rear and connected them to the tail light hookups

Answer:	A 2x6 board is actually 14” in circumference. So 12” wide carpet will leave a 2- 2 1/2” gap which is perfectly acceptable and lets the carpet dry quicker. However lots of folks don’t like the gap or think you have to overlap the carpet. We sell 18” wide bunk carpet too. We make our 2”X 6” carpeted bunks with 12 inch wide carpet. So 12” works fine, but we have 18” if you want an overlap. No matter what you decide, spray your bunk carpet with silicone spray regularly to reduce the coefficient of friction [CoF] between the loading and unloading boat. Makes your bunk carpet last longer.
