Answer:	What you want is 3/16" 7 x 19 GAC. It breaks around 4000 pounds which means you have a working load rating of around 1000 pounds which is what you want. Let me decode the designation. The 7 x 19 is the structure of it, meaning that there is six major strands twisted around one center strand for the seven part. The nineteen is the number of individual wires that make up each of the seven strands. The GAC stands for galvanized aircraft cable which is how smaller wire rope of this type is known, unfortunate because we don't call this stuff cable in general, but wire rope. (Cable is for running electricity) You can use 6 X19 or 6 X 7 layups. The six by means that there is a fibre strand in the center that is impregnated with lubricant. You don't need that for intermittent use. The "X 7" means that the strands only have seven bigger wires instead of the nineteen smaller ones to make the wire rope which makes the wire rope much stiffer and harder to handle. You want the nineteen if you can get it.

The winch is made to pull vehicles with tires out of mud and over obstacles. Heavy but rollable also and at times with their wheels helping pull also. Sounds like an experiment for you.

Answer:	Use a capstan winch. Load up the rope on the winch pull to the desired height and let go of rope. The heavy weight will drop straight down. Just keep hands away from the rope as it drops.

Answer:	Certainly the weight capacity of this winch is well within the range of 150 pounds. However the owner's manual with the winch says do not use for lifting items like a crane might. I'm betting it's a liability thing with the company.
Question:	Does this winch drain a stand alone 12 volt deep cycle marine battery. I need to pull a boat up a small waterfall fishing. Probably a thousand pounds
Answer:	I would guess that it might manage to get it up. The Amazon ad for the winch has some Specifications. You wouldn't have to pull the full thousands pounds. You'd have to just pull a friction coefficient times the weight. So, maybe 600-800 lbs? So, maybe 25-30 Amps? Line speed would probably be 6 FPM. So, figure how far you have to drag it, then see what your battery is rated for in Amp-hours. Because it is all DC, it is pretty straight forward. You just have to figure how far you are going to drag it in feet. Find the minutes, convert to hours. Multiply that by the Amps (25-30 Amps), and see if your battery can do it. Personal notes: The winch seems to be designed for locating on a bumper? Because I was going to use it to pull 300-or-so pound loads up ramps into a van, I had to make a wooden base for it, and that was not easy to do. Very awkward base. Of, course, 300 pound loads became a lot heavier each time it bound up on something! Ha, ha! I eventually go all the bugs out, and it has become a good reliable system. Recommend that you test it all out before you head out on the river! Can you charge the battery from some power supply in the boat? Question:	Has anyone mounted this vertically to a 2x10" joist? It looks like the mounting plate would be perfect for this - I need to vert lift 120 lbs
Answer:	I mounted mine vertically on a truck bed crane. It works well like that, but the motor trapped water and rusted the brush springs away. I replaced the springs and drilled some drain holes. Just be aware if its used outdoors vertically, water is a problem.

Question:	Is the solenoid all contained within the housing of the winch. I am looking for a winch that only needs a positive and a negative wire run to it
Answer:	This only needs a positive and a negative cable to run, I have this mounted to a trailer and I have modified a set of 25' long Jumper cables to connect directly to the winch and clamp to the battery terminals of whichever truck I am using.
Question:	Does this winch come with wiring kit to get from truck battery to the trailer
Answer:	No. The power leads from the winch are 3 - 4 feet long, ending with 5/16 ring-terminals. An inline circuit breaker is incorporated to the positive (red) lead.
