10 best fifth wheel hitch sliders
Fifth-wheel hitch sliders are a type of towing accessory commonly used in the world of recreational vehicles (RVs) and towing trailers. They play a crucial role in allowing vehicles, typically pickup trucks, to safely tow heavy fifth-wheel trailers. Here are the key points to know about fifth-wheel hitch sliders:
Purpose: Fifth-wheel hitch sliders are designed to enhance the maneuverability of vehicles when towing large fifth-wheel trailers. These trailers have a unique design with a front overhang that extends over the bed of the towing vehicle.
Slider Mechanism: The central feature of a fifth-wheel hitch slider is its slider mechanism. This mechanism allows the entire hitch assembly to move backward and forward within the bed of the pickup truck. It can be manually or automatically operated.
Maneuvering Benefits: When a fifth-wheel trailer is being towed, the slider can be adjusted to move the hitch's pivot point closer to the rear axle of the towing vehicle. This adjustment helps improve maneuverability, making it easier to navigate tight turns and avoid collisions between the trailer and the truck cab.
Use Cases: Fifth-wheel hitch sliders are especially useful for RVers who need to maneuver their trailers in campgrounds, parking lots, or other tight spaces. They are also beneficial for those towing fifth-wheel trailers with short-bed pickup trucks, as the shorter bed length can lead to increased risk of contact between the trailer and the truck cab during sharp turns.
Manual vs. Automatic: Some fifth-wheel hitch sliders are manually operated, meaning the driver must dismount the vehicle to adjust the slider's position. Others are automatic, with mechanisms that can be controlled from inside the truck cab, making adjustments more convenient.
Compatibility: It's essential to ensure that the fifth-wheel hitch slider is compatible with both the towing vehicle and the fifth-wheel trailer. Compatibility factors include weight capacity, mounting system, and the specific design of the slider.
Installation: Installing a fifth-wheel hitch slider typically involves securely mounting it within the bed of the pickup truck. Proper installation is critical to ensure safe towing and maneuvering.
Safety: Using a fifth-wheel hitch slider correctly is crucial for safe towing. Drivers must be aware of the trailer's turning radius and the slider's position to prevent contact between the trailer and the truck cab.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance of the fifth-wheel hitch slider is essential to ensure its proper functioning. Lubricating moving parts and inspecting for wear and damage are common maintenance tasks.
In the realm of towing products and automotive accessories, fifth-wheel hitch sliders are a valuable tool for RV enthusiasts and those who regularly tow fifth-wheel trailers. They provide an extra level of safety and maneuverability, particularly when navigating tight spaces or using short-bed pickup trucks for towing. Properly installed and operated fifth-wheel hitch sliders contribute to a safer and more convenient towing experience.

A CURT 5th wheel trailer hitch is the ultimate combination of towing power and smooth driving, but a CURT 5th wheel mounted on a 5th wheel roller turns this gentle giant into the ultimate in mobility too. If you have a short-bed truck, it can be difficult towing a large RV trailer, especially one with an extended front overhang. When you are towing a 5th wheel with a 6-foot truck bed, give yourself a little breathing room with a CURT 5th wheel roller. Our 5th wheel rollers mount easily onto a set of 5th wheel rails or a gooseneck adapter already installed in the bed of your pickup truck. CURT 5th wheel rollers feature solid construction and offer a sturdy mounting place for your 5th wheel hitch, ensuring that none of its towing strength is lost. CURT 5th wheel rollers are also true rolling units, meaning they actually roll on wheels that bear the weight of the trailer rather than simply moving on hollow rods as seen in competitive models. With a thick operating handle, the roller smoothly rolls the 5th wheel head forward and back, locking securely into each position as desired. CURT rollers also provide up to 12" of displacement as well, unlike the more common 10", to give you a wide range of motion and plenty of space to get your RV or other 5th wheel trailer around any turn. This 16K 5th wheel roller comes with a durable carbide powder coat to ensure the best possibly protection against scratching, chipping, rusting and UV damage. It has a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs. and is compatible with select CURT 5th wheel hitches and some competitive 5th wheel hitches.
- TURNING CLEARANCE. This 5th wheel roller is designed to provide a 5th wheel slider hitch solution. It provides 12 inches of rearward travel for additional turning clearance with short-bed trucks
- EASY TO INSTALL. This 5th wheel roller installs easily on any industry-standard 5th wheel base rails. They allow you to maximize the functionality of your truck bed, dropping into the 5th wheel rails
- VERSATILE. This 5th wheel roller is compatible with any CURT industry-standard 5th wheel base rails and most CURT 5th wheel hitch heads (sold separately)
- SOLID STRENGTH. This 5th wheel roller is rated for 16,000 lbs. gross trailer weight, allowing for a wide variety of towing applications (limited by lowest-rated towing component)
- DUAL-COAT. For dependable weather-resistance in your truck bed, this 5th wheel roller features a dual-coat finish of rust-resistant A-coat and a tough carbide black powder coat
User questions & answers
Question: | If I buy the slider and the intermediate plate will it fit a Reese head that is my question |
Answer: | I am not sure if the Reese head will fit. I would get ahold of a Reese Tech for that info. I have a slider/roller but I only used it once. I was able to turn and backup without any issues. We travel to Alaska last with our 5th wheel put on 9000 miles with no issues. I flat tire on truck. No problem. I would not buy a slider again. When slider is to rear on my truck you can't turn with the tailgate in. Hitch will hit tailgate. Good Luck |
Question: | Will this system work with the Curt Q |
Answer: | I don't believe it will. |
Question: | Will this head work with the e16 legs |
Answer: | I am new to this but I did a lot of research before I bought. These legs will fit this roller, but make sure they fit your truck bed too. I got a set of Reese legs (from another online marketplace that shall remain nameless!) to fit this unit and my truck that had been set up for 5th wheel when I bought it and they fit fine. The legs have to be specific to your vehicle. I also got my Curt e16 head unit from Amazon and they all fit together perfectly |
Question: | will this work on a 2018 ford f-150 with a 6.5 box |
Answer: | Yes, I have a 6.5' box and these are made for anything less than 8. However, you need to be sure it fits with the 5th wheel you are pulling as its max gross weight is 16K lbs. |

How to select a 5th wheel hitch: What size is the truck bed?
Your truck bed length will determine the type of mounting platform you’ll need for your 5th wheel hitch: legs or a roller. 5th wheel legs are the standard option for mounting a 5th wheel hitch, but they will only fit in a long-bed truck. For short-bed trucks, extra clearance may be needed when making tight turns. A 5th wheel roller will allow the hitch to roll backward, providing enough clearance between the trailer overhang and the truck cab.
Does the truck have an OEM puck system?
If you own a truck from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan or Ram, your truck bed may be equipped with a puck system (pictured). If your truck has a long bed with the puck system, select a CURT 5th wheel hitch with the appropriate OEM puck system legs. If your truck has a short bed with the puck system, select a CURT 5th wheel hitch with the appropriate OEM puck system roller or roller adapter.
Do you prefer permanent base rails?
If your truck does not have the OEM puck system, you will need to install 5th wheel rails. The traditional method for installing base rails is to use vehicle-specific under-bed brackets. First, select the custom under-bed brackets that fit your specific make and model, as well as a set of industry-standard base rails. Next, if you have a long-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with legs. If you have a short-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with a roller. Remember to always abide by the weight capacity of the lowest-rated towing component.
Would you like the option to easily remove the base rails?
Another 5th wheel mounting option is a gooseneck hitch. Using the CURT Double Lock EZr or Double Lock gooseneck and X5 adapter plate allows you to have a removable set of industry-standard 5th wheel base rails. First, select the Double Lock EZr gooseneck hitch kit that fits your specific make and model. Next, select the corresponding X5 adapter plate. Finally, if you have a long-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with legs. If you have a short-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with a roller.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with the legs that me E16 came with |
Answer: | I have machine washed many things that were supposedly not machine washable in a gentle cycle/cold water that turned out just fine. If you’re that worried, hand-washing works just as well. The spot-clean only Is just to cover their...cushions. |
Question: | Does this comes with the 16560 R16 roller, or is sold separately |
Answer: | I think you should get 2 cushions. I checked the description to verify. Be aware, they are handwash only or spot clean only. I tried laundering them in the washing machine, but the foam absorbed so much water, that the machines became off balance during spin cycle and 'walked away' from the hose that drains the water. Flooded basement ensued. Argh! I suppose you could soak them in the washing machine, but not having the spin cycle means they will need to dry for a long time! |
Question: | Can I replace me E16 with a A16 head and reuse my roller base |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | So does this hitch have any play like the e16 hitch? My e16 hitch makes lots of noise when start or stoping |
Answer: | More blue. Very pretty aqua. Nice thick pads non slip too. I would order them again. |
Question: | what is the diameter of the welding flange |
Answer: | Yes they can be washed BUT the ties tear easily and the fiber filling comes out. |
Question: | What is the lug spaceing |
Answer: | They seem to be about 2 1/2 ins thick. They are very comfortable and look good. Good product. |
Question: | how big of rim do you need for this product |
Answer: | Yes they are, and the ties are not strong. They ripped within a week of having them. |
Question: | Made in USA |
Answer: | I’m not sure about plastic covers, but the chair cushions are smaller than most cushions. Was a little disappointed. |

Product description
The CURT 5th wheel hitch lock #23256 provides the best possible security for your 5th wheel hitch because it is uniquely design for 5th wheel hitches and only 5th wheel hitches. It is not like standard hitch locks or coupler locks. It has two key features that make it particular unique and highly specialized for 5th wheel security: an extra-long pin and a zero-clearance body shape. The hitch pin used by the CURT 5th wheel hitch lock features a 1/2" diameter to fit all industry-standard 5th wheel base rails. However, unlike common hitch locks, this 1/2" pin has an extended length, allowing it to easily pass through a 5th wheel rail and leg anchor, locking the hitch into the truck bed. The CURT 5th wheel hitch lock is also shaped to provide enough space to clear the truck bed floor with ease. Unlike a hitch lock, the CURT 5th wheel lock will not be obstructed by the lock head. The 5th wheel lock is engineered to slide into place, next to the 5th wheel base rail, without any obstructions. The CURT 5th wheel hitch lock #23256 is highly weather-resistant and easy to operate. It is constructed from rust-free aluminum to easily outlast the elements, and it is finished in a durable black powder coat for maximum corrosion protection. It also features a weather-resistant dust cap to protect the key hole. The lock operates with a 1/8-turn activation for ease of use, and it comes with two keys to allow multiple people to operate the lock as need or to provide a backup key if one is lost.
- DEPENDABLE SECURITY. To protect your 5th wheel hitch from theft while it is left unattended, this 5th wheel base rail lock has a high-strength steel pin and aluminum body
- EASY TO OPERATE. This unique 5th wheel hitch lock installs tight against the base rails for a perfect, streamlined fit. It also uses a simple 1/8-turn lock activation for convenient locking and unlocking as needed
- HIGHLY VERSATILE. With an extra-long 1/2-inch diameter pin, this 5th wheel rail lock fits any industry-standard 5th wheel rails
- WATERTIGHT. The internal components of this 5th wheel base rail lock can easily be protected from the elements with the included watertight dust cap
- TWO KEYS INCLUDED. For your convenience, two keys are included with this 5th wheel lock. You can keep the spare key in a discrete location for emergencies or give it to a friend for helpful access
