13 best yakima river kayaks
The Yakima River is more commonly associated with outdoor activities like kayaking, fishing, and other water-related adventures rather than with specific kayak brands or models. However, Yakima, as a company, is known for its expertise in cargo management and exterior accessories for vehicles, including roof racks and kayak carriers.
Yakima offers a variety of products designed to enhance outdoor enthusiasts' experiences by providing secure and efficient ways to transport gear, including kayaks. Some of their kayak-related products include rooftop kayak carriers, kayak racks, and accessories for safe and convenient transport.
Yakima's kayak carriers are typically designed to mount on roof racks, making it easier for individuals to transport their kayaks without the need for a trailer. These carriers often feature adjustable and padded cradles to securely hold the kayak in place, as well as additional tie-down points for added stability during transportation.
When looking for kayak-related products from Yakima, it's essential to consider the specific needs of your vehicle and the type of kayak you own. Compatibility, ease of use, and the overall quality of the products are crucial factors to keep in mind.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on Yakima's kayak-related products, it is recommended to check their official website or contact authorized dealers that carry their products.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many SKS locks do I need to buy for the rack |
Answer: | You will need a 2 pack of the Yakima SKS lock cores to lock the JayLow's to the crossbar. |
Question: | Any ideas on how to get a 52 lb. kayak up on the Jaylows by yourself |
Answer: | My 16' kayak weighs 56 lbs. I line it up on the side of my car so that the cockpit is between the front and back bars, more or less. I lift the front and "walk" it with my hands until my hands are up over my head, then I lean the front 1/3-1/2 of the kayak against the front jay hook (cockpit out). It helps if the rear end of the boat is in grass or something that doesn't slide. Next I step a couple of steps to the rear of the cockpit and, with one hand grasping the cockpit and the other cradling under the back of the boat, I heave it up onto the rear jayhook. I'm 5'7" (female) and can do this in about 1 minute. I can barely lift the kayak by myself, but doing it 1/2 a boat at a time is super easy. |
Question: | Can i please get a detailed answer on how to stop the whistling that these jaylow carriers make? i have a faring already |
Answer: | Duct tape over holes on bottom will stop the whistling. |
Question: | Will this rack really carry two kayak's? To carry two kayak's do you need additional hardware or straps |
Answer: | We have not used these racks for 2 kayaks, we just bought 2 racks. BUT..... We have 4 kayaks and will try it someday. I can see how this rack will work for two, it just needs to be positioned perfectly vertically, instead of leaning back slightly. You will need another set of straps, preferablly two for around the main body and a bow and stern strap. We really like our Jaylow carriers, they are very easy to install and adjust, and very easy to load one kayak onto. You will need two people to put on the second kayak though, because the second kayak won't have the cradle bracket to hold it in place on the back of the bracket. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for a 2001 Volkswagen Passat Sedan |
Answer: | It is certainly more comfortable than the less expensive simpler versions. Better back support. A hard boat seat may still be better support but storage may be an issue. |
Question: | Will this fit on my 2017 BMW x |
Answer: | You should. Based on recent orders, high priority items related to corona virus are shipping first. You can expect a delay in shipping of a minimum of 30 days |
Question: | Will this fit a 2016 honda hr-v |
Answer: | Unsure. It is adjustable using 4 separate attachment points with straps. 2 forward at the top sides and 2 in the back at the sat level. So if the Hobie has 4 attachment points (2+2) you should be able to adjust. If you don't have the attachment points you will need to add. |
Question: | Will these fit my 2016 tacoma double cab |
Answer: | I don't know this particular kayak, but I have also an ocean kayak and the seat works fine. The straps adjust to a wide range of fastening points. I wouldn't worry since Amazon is very good about returning items that don't work for you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these work with a Porta-Bote |
Answer: | Probably not when it's open as it would require a more ridgid connection than I recall last time I was around one of the porta boats. Basically these restrain the gunwales, and you strap down to them. Work great with a canoe, ok with a cowling of a kayak, probably pretty well if you could get something like a johnboat up on a rack, but beyond that I'd not really want to trust them. |
Question: | do these come with the straps |
Answer: | Yes, this comes with bow and stern straps as well as two keep straps (side to side). |
Question: | Any reason this wouldn't work for a sit on top kayak carried hull side up |
Answer: | I would not recommend the Yakima KeelOver Canoe Racks for a sit-on-top kayak. The profile of the clamps is designed to accept the gunwales of a canoe.Sit-on-top kayaks typically have rounded gunwales which won't fit the KeelOver profile. |
Question: | Will this work for a 2018 Chevy Equinox with factory cross rails |
Answer: | I use it on a Subaru Outback with the factory roof rack. A 16-17 foot canoe. Works well. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit 4" tire? Yakima website says so, but not here in the specifications |
Answer: | I am sorry, I do not see the chart. Try to find out from the manufacture or seller of your kayak what size you need. Also, I purchased different sizes to see what will work for a kayak but our kayak does not work with this type so go to the seller or brand web site of the kayak you have to see what size & what type you need. Hope this info helps you. |
Question: | what do I need to make this mount onto Whispbar Rail Bars with t-channels |
Answer: | I don't know the size of those, because i use the bigger blue scupper stoppers. Go to the Ocean Kayak website itself. It is difficult to find ( navigate) , but their is a Specification Sheet that gives the diameters. If you can't find it, call the 800 number for them, so they can direct you to it .I finally stumbled on it myslef |
Question: | What keeps the wheel hoop secure when a bike is not attached? I don't want to take the rack off when I am not carrying a bike |
Answer: | search for: "oce_productmanual_scupper_size_chart.pdf" |
Question: | Whats the difference betwen this and the frontloader |
Answer: | What size do I need for my Ocean Kayak Ambush model |

User questions & answers
Question: | I purchased these in february and i lost the screw that keeps the end cap on. can i purchase more screws |
Answer: | To register in most states you will need the HIN or Hull ID Number. I will admit, this kayak was really hard to find the HIN on, I actually had to call the company. The HIN can be found on the underside of one of the storage compartments, I believe ours were on the underside of the bow compartment. The number is on a clear sticker with black text which does make it hard to read and find. I am having trouble remembering where we found the manufacture date, it was either on the outer wrap that the kayak came in or on the hang tag that was attached to the kayak. ocpaddle.net is where you can find the contact information for the company. |
Question: | Are these adjustable on the Height |
Answer: | Ours came with two paddles. The paddles we received are roughly 230 cm, we ended up buying slightly longer paddles as we felt the 230 were too short based on our heights and the kayak width. |
Question: | Do the bars mount with T-slot nut and bolts? Universal |
Answer: | Ours did not come with them, seeing as they weren’t a selling feature for us we didn’t mind. |
Question: | What size would fit for chevy colorado short bed? medium or large? Would they stick out too far if I go with large |
Answer: | I put these handle on my kayaks and are great |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit on a 2005 Honda Pilot |
Answer: | Louise,As long as you have the cross bars on your Pathfinder the SweetRoll will work out fine. Thanks,Rack Attack |
Question: | Will this rack work with Ford F -150 . Space to open Tailgate |
Answer: | I use a Thule water slide covering the trunk (open the trunk and put the Velcro attachments on the underside of the trunk lid and close to hold in place) then put a Seattle roller on your rear glass window at the top. Prop the kayak on the water slide on the trunk, carefully pick up the back of the kayak, and roll up and onto the bars/cradles on top of your Civic. I have used this system for several years and it works really well. Recommended by Blue Mountain Outfitters. |
Question: | What is the distance from the center of the hitch to the side when the rack is swung out to the side? What is the effective clearness? Thanks, Tim |
Answer: | Yes, it worked on my old Scupper Pro. |
Question: | Has anyone tried this with a jeep JK, and will it let me open the back gate all the way |
Answer: | Not sure of the exact size but just wanted to say that both of kayaks came with the cat bags already installed in both hatches. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit on a Toyota Corolla S |
Answer: | The EvenKeel includes a cam-buckle style strap for bow and stern lines. While the cam-style straps work great, the ratcheting Bow/Stern lines are a nice upgrade. |
Question: | I have a 2012 beetle turbo and vw doesn’t make any rack for the newer beetles. will this work |
Answer: | Yes, they could. The DeckHand is more commonly paired with HandRoll. |
Question: | Would a moon roof affect anything? The rack would have to partially lay on top of it |
Answer: | I mounted mine on a Yakima Dry Dock I bought several years ago. An earlier reviewer said he had filed down the plastic inserts to enable a tighter grip on his round crossbar, and I was prepared to do that but didn’t need to. I have mounted my kayak twice so far without having the cradles rotate on my 1 1/8 inch diameter crossbar. |
Question: | Will the easytop fit properly on the roof of my 2017 chevy cruze hatchback |
Answer: | Yes! The SweetRoll has universal mounting hardware, and fits Yakima round, square, factory and aerodynamic bars. |
