I was concerned about sewing through so many layers and might need to get a special presser foot. I did not need anything extra. not. It is a great machine!

Answer:	The trick is to get the right needle. So look for heavy duty or denim needles . You can use Schmetz or Organ brand for this machine as well as Janome's needles. Do not use any Singer products on this machine.

Answer:	Yes, it is a good machine especially for a total beginner. Why? Because 1. It's not one of those toys going for $25.00 that breaks as soon as you plug it in, causes frustration and you end up quitting; and 2. Janome is one of the top 3 BEST sewing machine makers in the world. They stand behind their products and they do not disappoint. Very few Janomes end up in the repair shop. You want to start out with something simple so you can avoid confusion and learn the basics like I did. This machine is simple. If you have a good teacher (yeah, Youtube can be very helpful), follow the instruction manual, take your time and start with small simple projects you will do fine on this machine. This is why so many schools buy this very model for their sewing students in home ec class. This machine is white just like in the photo. It comes with a 5 pack of spare universal needles size 12 and maybe 6 spare bobbins. You should buy needles since you should change needles every project or every 4 hours of sewing time which ever comes first. Janome Brand, Organ or Schmetz flat shank are good. If you need more bobbins I would find a certified Janome dealer to buy from. Not all bobbins fit all machines. Do not use anything SINGER with this machine. Answer:	I don't know exact lbs. But it's a decent weight. It doesn't jump around when sewing. A good investment, I haven't had mine too long but am a professional seamstress and use this at home and work depending on the current ned at the shop. It's simple enough for my 9 yo. Answer:	The pads on the clamp will clamp evenly on a 1 inch thickness as the pads are parallel at 1 inch. The clamp will open to over 2 inches but anything at about 1-1/2 inches and up the pads do not make parallel contact and you risk the clamp slipping off when weight is applied because only a slight surface at the back of the clamp makes contact. Also, as you open the clamp beyond 1 inch, the spring, which is very strong, takes a lot of force to open. Hope this helps.

Answer:	Try using twill tape. Staple one side of twill to the wooden frame. Then, sew the fabric along the "V" of the tape to hold the fabric in place.

Answer:	The machine does not do monogramming. You would need an embroidery machine to do that. You can however sew very small alphabet letters so you could write someone’s name. I bought this to take to quilting classes because it is lightweight. You can buy an embroidery only machine for approx. the same price and usually the combination machines are higher in cost. Answer:	Hi Deborah,Yes, I would say so, I purchased this for my Niece as a Christmas gift and she is 26 first learning to sew. Her first sewing project is making a quilt out of her old t-shirts she had when she was little. Anyone no matter what age can learn to sew with this sewing machine. Since a 7 or 8 year old will be learning to sew I'd suggest an adult watching this child for a while until they learn to sew better on their own. Also sign up that child for sewing lessons. Some fabric stores do offer sewing lessons. This is an excellent sewing machine, I also have a Janome I received as a gift from my Mom a few years ago. Also on Amazon you can purchase Janome items just for your sewing machine, such as extra sewing needles and etc. I'm all for a child having a sewing machine, I had a toy one when I was little that actually sewed. I would sew Barbie Doll clothes on it. You may check Amazon for a beginners how to sew book for children.
