2 best tape binding machines

Tape binding machines, also known as tape binders, are devices used in sewing and crafting to attach fabric tapes or bindings to the edges of fabric pieces. These machines are commonly used in the creation of various items such as blankets, quilts, clothing, and other fabric-based projects.

Key features and aspects of tape binding machines include:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of a tape binding machine is to neatly and securely attach fabric tape or binding to the edges of fabric pieces, providing a finished and professional look.

  2. Material Compatibility: These machines can work with various types of fabric materials, including cotton, polyester, and other common fabric types.

  3. Attachment Mechanism: Tape binding machines typically have a feed mechanism that allows the fabric and the tape or binding to be fed through the machine, where they are stitched together.

  4. Stitching Patterns: These machines create stitching patterns that securely join the fabric and the tape, ensuring durability and a clean finish.

  5. Adjustability: Many tape binding machines offer adjustable settings for tape width, stitch length, and other parameters to accommodate different fabric and tape sizes.

  6. Ease of Use: Modern tape binding machines are designed to be user-friendly, with intuitive controls and easy setup to facilitate smooth operation.

  7. Versatility: Some tape binding machines are versatile and can handle various binding widths, allowing for a wide range of applications.

  8. Sewing Speed: These machines can vary in sewing speed, with some models designed for high-speed production and others for more precise and controlled sewing.

  9. Size and Portability: Tape binding machines come in different sizes, from tabletop models suitable for small-scale projects to larger, more robust machines for industrial or heavy-duty applications.

  10. Accessories and Maintenance: They may come with additional accessories and require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

User questions & answers

Question: Do you have to use their binder covers? Or can you just use a thermal binding glue strip so you can use your own cover
Answer: I tried both cases. All works well. I tried binding glue strip with own cover which I used own printed photo paper as cover. It looks good with pretty strong binding. I bought some covers. It looks like commercial binding. Overall I am happy with this binder. Even though binder glue is good, I always use staple to make extra binding power. It is not recommend by fellows, but I have used. None of page comes out from my bindings so far.
Question: Can you use any cover you want (for example, heavy cardstock) or do you have to use their specific covers
Answer: I have used lots of different covers: chipboard, cardstock, report covers, etc. Anything that will not melt at a lower temperature than the hot glue/adhesive.
Question: I am looking to purchase a thermal binder for my school library--can this system be used to re-bind paperback books that have pages coming loose
Answer: In theory, yes. The only thing that can be an obstacle is whether the heat from the machine will affect the book spine... e.g. warping, melting, and cracking. We use it to make custom books and the quality of the spine after heating really depends on the cover paper coatings.
Question: Can you staple pages before thermal binding with the Helios 30/60? I worry about pages falling out
Answer: Yes. It works very well. The glue is strong but some times couple of pages come out from the binding books. As long as you use staple with glue. It is perfect. They are not recomand to use staple, but it works better. I made many thick binding books with staple and glue. none of them failed.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a nelco J-A38 will this fit
Answer: It will if there are 2 small threaded holes to the right of the needle plate. You have to supply the screws.
Question: The 1" binder leaves 1/2" on each side of fabric right
Answer: Yep, it folds down the center automatically
Question: what size binding tape does it take it has two differnt sizes..Will it take 1 inch wide
Answer: You buy these by the size that you need. So a 1" binding uses the 1" binder. A 7/8" binding uses a 7/8" binder. I have a few of these to fit the bindings I use regularly. It is tough to see the size sometimes, but most of the titles for the products have them on it.
Question: Thumb screws for attaching the binder to a sewing machine are included, but are too short to function. What is the thread size of the thumb screws
Answer: The screws supplied are for the assembly of binder. Use standard needle thumb screws, they will be long enough to attach binder to table, and are the same thread size and pitch as the screws supplied. I ordered this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018ZLBVVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 got the 2 screws i needed and a guide.
