7 best liquitex gel
Liquitex Gel is a type of acrylic gel medium used in the realm of painting and art supplies. It is an essential tool for artists, particularly those who work with acrylic paints. Here's what you need to know about Liquitex Gel in the context of paints, painting, and art supplies:
Acrylic Gel Medium: Liquitex Gel is a brand of acrylic gel medium. Gel mediums are additives that artists mix with acrylic paints to modify their texture, transparency, and drying time. They are used to achieve various artistic effects and to extend the possibilities of acrylic painting.
Texture and Consistency: Liquitex Gel comes in different formulations, each with a specific texture and consistency. Some common types include heavy body gel, soft body gel, and fluid gel. These gels can range from thick and impasto-like to thinner and more fluid, allowing artists to create different surface textures and effects in their artwork.
Transparency and Opacity: Depending on the type of Liquitex Gel you choose, it can either be clear or have varying levels of opacity. Clear gels maintain the transparency of acrylic paints, while opaque gels can be used to add opacity and matte effects to the paint.
Drying Time: Gel mediums like Liquitex Gel can alter the drying time of acrylic paints. Some gels extend the drying time, allowing artists to work with the paint for longer, while others expedite drying for quicker layering.
Mixing and Blending: Artists can mix Liquitex Gel directly with acrylic paint to achieve different effects. For example, blending gel with paint can create a more translucent glaze, while mixing it with pigments can yield impasto textures.
Adhesion and Bonding: Gel mediums like Liquitex Gel can be used to enhance adhesion and bonding between layers of paint. This is especially useful when building up multiple layers in a painting.
Collage and Mixed Media: Many artists use Liquitex Gel as an adhesive in collage and mixed media art. It provides a strong bond for attaching various materials like paper, fabric, or found objects to a canvas or substrate.
Sealing and Varnishing: Some artists use Liquitex Gel as a final layer to seal and protect their artwork. It can also serve as a varnish to add a glossy or matte finish to the painting.
Compatibility: Liquitex Gel is designed to be compatible with other Liquitex acrylic products, making it easy for artists to create consistent effects within their artwork.
Safety: Like all art supplies, it's important to follow safety guidelines when using Liquitex Gel. This includes working in a well-ventilated area and avoiding direct skin contact or ingestion of the product.
In summary, Liquitex Gel is a versatile acrylic gel medium used by artists to modify the texture, transparency, drying time, and other properties of acrylic paint. It plays a significant role in the world of painting and is a valuable tool for artists working in various styles and techniques, including acrylic pouring, impasto, and mixed media art.

User questions & answers
Question: | I used this to create textures for my painting and it just shrank and flattened. I thought this was suppose to give texture and high peaks. How come |
Answer: | Firstly, the product will flatten out on a flat surface as it dries - this is an unavoidable effect of gravity. "High peaks" must be carefully sculpted and then reshaped while drying - consider drying your piece upside down. Let gravity do its work. Secondly, this product is designed to be used with other Liquitex acrylic paints - if you're mixing it with another type of paint, an unfavorable chemical reaction may be affecting your desired result. The same holds true if you are applying it over a painted surface which has dried. Third, you could consider adding a stiffening agent, such as quick setting acrylic adhesive, to your mixture. This will force the gel to "set up" quickly and stiffen. Experiment with a little bit of material first. |
Question: | Description states, "Usually ships within 2 to 4 months". I'm hoping that is an error because I was just about to order this |
Answer: | It depends on seller. If you want to order this with current seller which lead time to ships is 2-4 month, try to contact and confirm with them. It might be an error like you said. Or you might try to order this with another seller with less lead time to ship. The 99 Give Store usually ships this item within 3-4 business days. |
Question: | After I transfer a photo, can I use this on top as a finish or is it just for the transfer process |
Answer: | You use it as a top coat, it dries clear and works as a seal |
Question: | Is this what I should use to transfer a photo to cloth |
Answer: | Yes. If you laser print your photo onto the shiny side of the a label’s backing paper (you have to peel off and discard/use elsewhere the actual label) you can just just peel it off after drying instead of the water and rub method! |

Answer: | There are two droppers in blue and pink, the quality is very good, I am very pleased! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this varnish smooth out the texture of an acrylic painting |
Answer: | No. The varnish protects the paint but does not change the texture of the surface. |
Question: | How much Gloss Varnish do i need to properly coat an 18"x24" Canvas |
Answer: | There is a formula for paint coverage on YouTube that specifies the number of ounces/grams needed to cover a canvas. I'm not sure if it would answer your needs, but here it is. Measure your canvas height and width then multiply them by each other to get the square inches. Multiply the square inches by 0.1 to get the ounces needed to cover your canvas. To convert to grams, multiply the ounces by 28. This is only a rough guide as the paint consistency will affect coverage, i.e., the thinner the paint, the fewer ounces needed. |
Question: | What is the effective difference between normal matte medium and the matte fluid medium |
Answer: | The normal matte medium will only produce a matte effect on the paint. The matte fluid medium will give the same matte effect, but will also lessen the viscosity of the acrylic paint you’re mixing in making it thinner and slightly more transparent (depending on the amount of medium added). |
Question: | will this work on airdry clay when i make a dish |
Answer: | Yes. You can paint air dry clay which will give limited protection. However, your object will not be waterproof. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use it on doll plastic |
Answer: | It probably won't give good results. |
Question: | What's the difference between the Liquitex "Professional" gesso and the "Basics" gesso |
Answer: | I had used only Liquitex products (gesso and paints) for years. Due to the expense of painting, I decided to try the Liquitex Value Series Basics Gesso. It came in a 1.89 ltr. (1/2 gal.) bucket. I have never been more disappointed in a product!! I used it, but it was difficult to use because it had the consistency of Jello. It did not thin well, and even had lumps that needed to be strained out. I still have 1/2 of the bucket left, and only use it on projects that do not require a fine texture. I would NOT recommend it. |
Question: | What color is this gesso? I am looking for clear but this one doesn’t make it clear what color or if it’s clear |
Answer: | It is white opaque. I use it to prime my canvas as well as for my white paint. There is a very heavy bodied version also which can be used for more texture. Some companies make different colors. I'm not sure if Liquitex makes clear, but someone does? |
Question: | Would someone recommend prepping a metal surface for painting with this product a necessity? (I am unfamiliar with Gesso |
Answer: | Yes, it will be beneficial to prep the metal surface. You will want to roughen up the surface with steel wool or sanding paper. Then be sure to wash it really well to remove any oils or debris. Then you can apply the gesso. |

An innovative, impasto, titanium white gesso having the ability to hold sculptural shape. Provides all the attributes of traditional acrylic gesso. Ideal for thick and sculptural application with a knife or brush.
Product description
Extra heavy body and very opaque. A marble paste made of marble dust and 100% polymer emulsion. Used to build heavy textures on rigid supports and create three-dimensional forms. Dries to the hardness of stone. It can be sanded or carved when thoroughly dry. Can be handled like clay if the top of the container is removed and some of the water is allowed to slowly evaporate until it reaches a clay-like consistency. Adheres to any non-oily, absorbent surface. Drying too quickly causes mud cracking that is usually cosmetic, not structural. When mixed with acrylic colors will act as a weak tinting white, while increasing thickness and rigidity. Excellent substrate for acrylic paint, oil paint, oil pastel, oil bars, watercolor, graphite, or dry pastel.
- Can be handled like clay if the top of the container is removed and some of the water is allowed
