Answer:	It was not designed to be attached on one side to a wall. We have a four panel that stands free securely, but I don't know if the hinges would hold up supporting the gate as it swings with a secured panel on one side.

I avoided stepping over it at first because I didn't want my taller dog observing how easy it is and getting ideas, and the swinging door method worked fine. Now I just step over it (taller dog jumps it when he gets overly excited, but he's very intelligent and follows the intent of my rules).
