Answer:	The center rod that pushes the plunger (that pushes out the caulk from the tube) has a metal release tab above the back pistol grip. Pushing the tab releases the pressure on that rod and plunger, which in turn releases the pushing pressure on the caulk coming out of the tube tip. Pushing the tab down also allows you to pull the rod all the way back to load a new tube of caulk.
