Question: | How are these different than the non-professional ones |
Answer: | Better quality metal. More carbon in the steel. They stay sharper longer and are more resistant to nicks. |
Question: | I accidentally cut into a pin while cutting and have damaged my glorious scissors. Can this be repaired |
Answer: | Just p/u a decent Wet Stone here on Amazon. The scissors come apart and it isnt hard to simply sharpen and work out any damage to the blades. User questions & answers
Question: | How good are these for cutting little piece of fabric, like welt and opening welt pockets |
Answer: | These should be good for the purpose. I chose them because they cut all the way along the blade. Cheap scissors very often don't actually meet tightly, so they may not actually cut at the point you need them to. These scissors will cut and are small enough to get at individual threads, which I think is what you need for opening pockets. |
Question: | Are these good for cutting sewn buttonholes? Are they thin enough not to cut the buttonhole threads |
Answer: | I do not think I would use these scissors to cut button holes. They are very sharp, but the 2 pairs that I have seem to have a burr or something on the tip. They are great for trimming threads. I use a seam ripper to cut button holes. Just be sure to put a pin on the top of the button hole to keep from cuttin all the way through it. |
Question: | What’s do the “curved tips” mean? Ie 5100 vs 5100C? I’m also looking for scissors with the thinnest blades, would these be the thinnest |
Answer: | These blades are thin. They are a very small scissor. If you lie the 5100 and the 5100c on the table, the 5100 will be straight, the 5100c will curve up. |
Question: | Do these have a blunt tip |
Answer: | No they don't. Thy have a thick pointed tip (width of the blades). |

Question: | are these the kai n5100c scissors or not? it does not appear to have the info on the blade. these are priced for 9.59 and amazon also offers a pair s |
Answer: | I have 7-8 pr of KAI scissors, various sizes. All have name on blade. The handle “loops” on these also look odd in shape from any of mine. Ckeck their web site |
Question: | Can these be used for fussy cutting paper |
Answer: | Absolutely! I fussy cut fabric with them. My favorite scissors! |
Question: | Are they good for plastic canvas projects |
Answer: | There are really meant for lighter weight fabrics, like cotton. Canvas is going to be too thick ... and plastic canvas even tougher. |
Question: | Why is Kai name not on the scissor |
Answer: | Don't know why it's not in the picture. The pair I'm looking at has it. KAI 5100 Made in Japan |

User questions & answers
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | Japan. I have four Kai scissors and all four were made in y Japan. I always thought Ginghers were the best but I have been impressed tremendously with the Kai scissors!! |
Question: | Does 6 length include handle |
Answer: | Yes, including handles, however, I returned the and can’t remember why. I think I found them too clunky or the blades too thick. Something like that. |
Question: | How long are the blades |
Answer: | From the tip to the bottom of the screw the measurement is 2 1/2" These are fabulous scissors! The 6" length is the total length from tip to bottom of the handle. |
Question: | How does this compare to the Kai |
Answer: | The KAI 7510 is 6" long and the KAI 7170 is 6 2/3" long. They are almost identical. I recommend you look at Carolyn Friedlander's descriptions of both scissors at https://carolynfriedlander.com/shop/kai-7170-scissor/ and https://carolynfriedlander.com/shop/kai-7150-scissor/. I use my 7150's constantly while sewing. I frequently use a KAI N5135 5" curved-tip trimmer to trim curved seams, and have a KAI N5150 serrated "rag" snipper (5 2/3") that I use far less often, although the serrated blade is a great feature. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this set right handed or left handed |
Answer: | The large scissor is right handed the two smaller are ambidextrous but still thought of as right handed |
Question: | did you receive it in some kind of retail box that includes all 3 or is it just 3 individual scissors bundled together |
Answer: | The scissors are packaged in a box and have ties to keep the scissors separated. Great scissors. I highly recommend Kai. |
Question: | What sizes scissors are included in this 3 pack |
Answer: | 1 pair of N3160- 6" Serrated Patchwork: Serrated blades help grip the fabric on satin, silky, slippery fabrics. Excellent on cotton for cutting multiple layers of patchwork piecing. Also great for cutting out applique. Wool applique is also an ideal fabric for these scissors. Having the serrated teeth gives you more control, especially when turning and cutting simultaneously. This 6-inch serrated scissor gives your the best of both worlds, detail cutting control and ability to cut longer runs (as opposed to the 4-inch version). 1 pair of N3210- 8" Serrated Patchwork: Serrated blades help grip the fabric on satin, silky, slippery fabrics. Excellent on cotton for cutting multiple layers of patchwork piecing. The eight inch 3210 is ideal for longer cuts and would be considerd a standard length. The serrated teeth are considered a micro serration, not to be confused with a pinking blade. 1 pair of N3120- 4 1/2" Serrated Patchwork: Serrated blades help grip the fabric on satin, silky, slippery fabrics. Excellent on cotton for cutting multiple layers of patchwork piecing. Also great for cutting out applique. This 4-inch version is ideal for finer, detailed cutting. Small appliques can be easily cut, even when working on slippery satins and silks. Wool appliques are easily cut, especially turning and cutting. |
