12 best fabric glues
Fabric glue, also known as fabric adhesive, is a type of adhesive specifically designed for bonding fabrics together. It is commonly used in crafting, sewing, and various DIY projects. Here is what you need to know about fabric glues in the context of Fabric Adhesives, Adhesives, Craft Supplies, Crafting, and Arts Crafts Sewing:
Purpose: Fabric glues are formulated to bond fabric materials together without the need for sewing. They are particularly useful for tasks where traditional sewing methods may be impractical or for creating temporary bonds.
Types: There are different types of fabric glues available, including washable and non-washable varieties. Washable fabric glues can be used for projects that require laundering, as they can withstand machine washing. Non-washable glues are suitable for projects that won't be exposed to water.
Application: Fabric glue is typically applied directly to the fabric surfaces you want to bond. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and drying times. Some fabric glues may require heat setting with an iron for a secure bond.
Drying Time: Fabric glues usually have varying drying times, and it's important to allow the glue to fully dry and cure according to the product's guidelines before using or washing the fabric.
Uses: Fabric glues can be used for a wide range of crafting and sewing projects. They are commonly employed for hemming, patching, appliqué work, creating fabric embellishments, and adhering fabric to other materials like wood or paper.
Craft Supplies: Fabric glue is readily available in craft stores and online marketplaces. It is often found in the crafting section alongside other adhesives and sewing supplies.
Safety: When using fabric glue, it's important to work in a well-ventilated area and follow safety precautions, as some fabric glues may contain chemicals that emit fumes. Additionally, store fabric glues out of reach of children.
Overall, fabric glues are versatile and convenient tools for a variety of fabric-related projects, offering an alternative to traditional sewing methods and allowing crafters to achieve unique and creative designs with ease.

Question: | How much area will one bottle 8oz cover? I want to replace the headliner in my truck which has an area of approximately 12 square feet |
Answer: | Just a guesstimate, but I think 1 to 2 bottles would suffice. A thin straight bead along the edges and a thin zig zag pattern (don't go overboard) throughout the remainder should do the trick. Don't think you have to have every inch of the surface to be covered. After drying it "should have a uniform effect" I've only used this product on a small area, but I've done similar repairs with other adhesives (not fabric) and it does the trick. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be used to hold on zippers |
Answer: | This product is ideal in creating collage, greeting cards, invitations and fabric projects. Regarding zippers, it can adhere the tape or fabric part but we cannot guarantee the hold would last due to frequent use or force applied. |
Question: | Will it stick fabric and felt to yarn |
Answer: | I have not tried that yet but I don't see why not. It's a great product for hemming curtains and it even survived the wash. |
Question: | will this work for denim (hemming jeans |
Answer: | Directions say washing will not affect adhesion. I've had good luck using a hot glue gun to hem canvas and denim. Use a high quality hot glue stick like Gorilla Glue Sticks. The trick is to press both side of the hem together quickly before the glue starts hardening. Also, apply glue sparingly to both sides of the hem. Too much and you risk the glue bleeding through the fabric. It's easy to forget that the glue is like molten lava; resist the urge to wipe off excess with your fingers. You will get burned. Instead, keep some tongue depressors or toothpicks handy to scrape up hot glue. The best part is that the hot glue bonds quickly, so you only need to press down on the joined parts for 15 seconds or so. |
Question: | Is this a permanent or temporary glue? Like it will stick to my graduation cap |
Answer: | permanent as any other Fabric glue that bonds a tears are possible. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work to re-attach the fabric on the visor which has become slightly unattached |
Answer: | It worked good on my headliner. Would think it would be fine for the visor |
Question: | Will this work to attach convertable top to rear glass window |
Answer: | You're getting into "expert need respond" territory. It's purpose is to hold IN PLACE a thin sheet of fabric to a molded headliner. It doesn't seem to claim or offer bonding strength or weatherproof properties other than keeping fabric attached and held in place to a headliner inside a car. |
Question: | My headliner still has some of the old foam on it, will this stick to foam, or just come off |
Answer: | Dollars to doughnuts the fabric is detaching from its factory bonded foam reverse side due to the foam breaking down. Usually7 the foam is still bonded to the shell. It's like painting over really really bad paint; it might work but probably won't last long at all. Rub the foam with your finger. Does it crumble? |
Question: | With a sagging headliner, will I need to cut it to apply the adhesive? Can someone give me a quick summary of the process involved with this |
Answer: | In my experience (2003 Xterra), I had to remove the whole headliner from my truck. I wanted to ensure that the bond was thorough and would last. This is a tough job depending on your car but it is well worth it.1. I removed the headliner from the vehicle and removed the old headliner fabric.2. I highly recommend that you scrub off the old foam from the headliner so the adhesive has a fresh surface to adhere to.3. Measure your headliner size and purchase fabric from any fabric store. Then you will make the proper cuts for lights, visors, etc.4. Before spraying adhesive, lay out the new fabric to ensure it is in place. Work one side at a time (front then back). 5. The adhesive has different settings for spraying but make sure the area is covered thoroughly (the headliner and the fabric need to be sprayed), let it sit for a minute then firmly press the headliner material onto the adhesive. Making sure bubbles and gaps do not appear. Repeat this on the other side.6. I let my headliner dry for about 2 hours before placing it back into my truck. This is all dependent on the type of car you have and how thorough of a job you would like to do. You can easily just spray and go but your results might just be a temporary fix. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Im looking for best way to glue rhinestones and gems permanently to wedding dresses as arthitis prevents me from sewing that many as i used to |
Answer: | This would be a wonderful glue for your rhinestone application. |
Question: | I have a beautiful antique glass look up broken what does glue help glue that glass back together |
Answer: | I would look for a different glue for your application. This is more for fabrics. |
Question: | HOW long does it take to be set |
Answer: | It doesn’t take long to set, about 30 minutes, depending on the weight of the fabric. When glueing a heavy weight fleece robe pocket back in place it worked in between two layers but not where pocket hem was double layer. Dried in about 20 minutes but held together well even quicker@ about 5 minutes. |
Question: | Would this be strong enough to fix a large hole with a patch in a bounce house, the fabric type |
Answer: | I think so. I use it for almost everything I need glue for. I used this to glue down a floor tile once and a friend used it to make a leather dress instead of sewing. I recommend laying the area where you are putting the patch as flat as possible and setting something flat and semi-heavy (a stack of books, etc) on top of it while it dries overnight. |

Question: | What does uncarded mean |
Answer: | The tube of glue comes shrink wrapped in plastic. Uncarded means it is not packaged on a piece of printed cardboard with a plastic cover glued to the cardboard to hold the tube of glue in place. Let me know if you are confused. |
Question: | when it dries it it more like rubber, leather or canvas |
Answer: | Canvas. I've used this on quilts, pretty much anything you sew you can use this. It's very strong, I wash things with it and it never has dissolved or come open. |
Question: | Would I be able to use this to add a patch to a stuffed animal's face |
Answer: | Yes, the glue dries clear and is permanent. |
Question: | Does it stain and is it washable |
Answer: | No, this did not stain the fabric. It is washable. I used it to shorten/hem 2 pair of pajama pants instead of sewing them. The glue itself was on the thick side. At first it was difficult to get the glue to come out. I feel I might have been sent an older product. |

Question: | Does it stick to glass |

Question: | Can you use this glue to glue gripper slippers to slippers made with yarn |
Answer: | I would think so. |
Question: | can it be returned to a liquid state |
Answer: | No. When it dries, it is a solid and is not water soluble. It can get wet but it will not revert back to a liquid state. I have used it on ribbon and it had gotten wet, but it did not harm the glue. Hope this helps. |

Due to the new formulation issues, the glue is watery and you only need a very small amount so it doesn’t seep through the clothing otherwise the glue will show a little bit on your cloth.
After you squeeze the glue on the fabric, wait patiently for the glue to dry.
Please do not open the fabric to check the bonding effect before drying, otherwise the glue will evaporate in the air and fail.
PS:Don't wash fabric in 24 hours, if the glue is used too much at one time and does not dry, please wait 48 hours before washing.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long will the glue hold? I’m making a lot of hexies and it may take months before I get to hand sew them all together |
Answer: | A very long time. I glued a bunch of pieces for my epp project 6 months ago and held til now perfectly when I picked the project back up. |
Question: | I hope this isn't a stupid question, but if it's water soluble does that mean it'll be less adhesive after washing the clothes |
Answer: | You use this glue to temporarily arrange or line up fabric pieces, then sew on or over the pieces. It is the thread that holds everything together, not the glue, that's why it is water soluble. See "applique." |
Question: | can you sew through this without gumming up your needle |
Answer: | I don't know. I am using it for English Paper piecing, and not sewing through it. |
Question: | I hope this isn't a stupid question, but if it's water soluble does that mean it'll be less adhesive after washing the clothes |
Answer: | It'll be less adhesive long before you even think about washing it. This is a totally worthless fabric adhesive. It isn't meant to be permanent--"water soluble " means that it is supposed to wash out. But in my experience the adhesion wasn't even temporary. It's supposed to keep appliques on until you sew them permanently--so you don't have to use pins. It simply didn't work. Everything fell off as soon as it dried. |

Question: | making lace embroidery bells. they are in six sections and need to be glued together. will this glue work or do I need somehting different |
Answer: | It certainly worked for my application, glueing two pieces of cloth together. I will tell you to apply lightly too much and excess will stain. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does it stick to glass |
Answer: | Do you mean does it stick glass objects to fabric? Yes it does you just ha e to make sure you set the object in a glob of the glue.... meaning when you place the object on the fabric and push down, glue should come up around the edges of said object if this does not happen the when the glue dries there will be no seal around said object and when the material folds or bends the object could just peel right off. |
Question: | Can i use it to line satin in my hats |
Answer: | You can..but it will leave a mark where it was applied. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it dry clear? I want to fix snake leather tear on the shoe. Will it stay? If not, any other products to suggest |
Answer: | It depends, on dark fabric it does not dry clear. I am not sure if it will fix a snake leather tear in a shoe - not sure if it would be be tough enough and flexible enough for that application. |
Question: | Assuming the the top is closed properly, does it dry out if used infrequently |
Answer: | We bought a set of this after seeing a commercial about it a couple years ago - it was a three pack, I think. I large, medium, and small one. We bought it as a "just in case" item and I have rarely had to use it - it works wonderfully. It's tricky though - and seeps through fabric so I would apply with a quick, light touch. It dries fast, too - a bit too fast for my. Anyway/// I hadn't used it in a while, but last year I needed to use it a couple of times on some fabric I was crafting with. The first time I tried to use it - nothing came out. I shook the bottle, but heard little movement and when I opened the cap I was disappointed to see that it had dried up - there was a thick skin inside. I thought I might go ahead and just use the bottle for something else so started to pull the thick, strong skin out and realized there was still some liquid on the inside (as it splashed on my hands while I was pulling at the glue skin). Once I was able to wiggle the dried skin out - there was some glue in the bottle and it was usable. After that I closed the cap and put it back on the shelf. The second time I needed it again - months later - the same thing - there was a glue skin covering the inside of the bottle that I had to remove and then there was some fluid glue on the inside that I could use normally. I was disappointed about that thick skin developing each time. I'm not sure how much of the glue is hardening each time, but it's enough to know I probably am losing a lot of this expensive glue just because it's drying in the bottle. I'm afraid to go look into the LARGE and MEDIUM UNUSED bottles that have just been on the shelf! Again, the product works a dream once you figure out how to handle it. Shame that it skins in the bottle though - hoping I didn't waste a ton of money. This may be something bought one small bottle at a time, on sale - unless you have a definite need for it. |
Question: | Will it work to repair Muck boots |
Answer: | I think it depends on what parts of the muck boot. This product is primarily intended for adhering porous and semi-porous materials together, like fabric and leather. I really question its strength with smooth plastics, especially under stress. |
Question: | would it work well for putting a woven sports patch on a jacket |
Answer: | Yes, I think so if the jacket is cloth and not vinyl or leather. It works well if it can "grab" something to adhere to and it "grabs" cloth well. Remember, though, that it may slightly discolor fabric so keep the TM under the patch and don't allow it to bleed out from under it. Use a small amount at first and add to it if you need more. |
