9 best booster for clothes dryers
A booster for clothes dryers, in the context of portable dryers, washers, and appliances, typically refers to a device or component designed to enhance the drying performance of a clothes dryer. These boosters are used to address specific issues related to drying clothes, especially in situations where the dryer may be situated in a location with limited airflow or ventilation. Here's what you should know about boosters for clothes dryers:
Enhanced Airflow:
- A booster for clothes dryers is installed in the dryer's exhaust system to improve the flow of air. This can help overcome issues like long or convoluted ductwork, which can restrict airflow and reduce drying efficiency.
Increased Drying Speed:
- By ensuring better airflow, a booster can speed up the drying process. This is particularly useful in cases where the dryer has to push air through a lengthy duct or when it's located in a basement or other confined space.
Reduced Energy Consumption:
- Improved airflow can lead to more efficient drying. When clothes dry faster, the dryer operates for a shorter period, potentially reducing energy consumption and utility bills.
Installation:
- Boosters for clothes dryers are typically installed in the exhaust ductwork of the dryer. They can be set up with sensors or switches that activate the booster when needed, such as when airflow is reduced.
Compatibility:
- When considering a booster, it's important to ensure compatibility with your specific dryer model and the configuration of your exhaust system. Different dryers may require different types of boosters.
Maintenance:
- Like any appliance component, booster fans may require periodic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubrication, to ensure they continue to function effectively.
Safety Considerations:
- Proper installation and maintenance of booster fans are crucial for safety. Ensuring that the booster doesn't become clogged with lint is essential to prevent potential fire hazards.
In summary, a booster for clothes dryers is a device that improves the airflow and drying performance of a clothes dryer, especially in situations with challenging ductwork configurations or limited ventilation. These boosters can help reduce drying times, improve energy efficiency, and ensure your clothes are dried effectively.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this unit be installed in the attic |
Answer: | I put mine in attic on wood floor Works fine. My attic is well vented and easy to access. |
Question: | I'm still not getting the air flow I need. Can you increase the air flow |
Answer: | If this isn't giving get you the airflow you need I'm not sure what will. How long is your run? Mine pushes the air close to 25 feet including 2 90 degree turns. Are you sure there isn't an obstruction in your dryer vent? |
Question: | Is there a minimum distance from the dryer for installation |
Answer: | I have this product as close to the dryer as possible with approx. 2 ft. of flex hose from dryer-to-booster and another 3-4 ft. of flex hose from booster-to-outside vent pipe. The outside vent is approx. 16 ft. from the booster outlet. It really seems to help assist the dryer and shorten the time for complete clothes drying. I recommend this product. |
Question: | Is this booster approved by the International Building Code. Thanks, Lindy How can I get a confirmation in writing that it is approved |
Answer: | I would not expect the International Building Code to apply such a product. It is a device that quite like dryer in that it plugs into the a normal electrical outlet and into the duct in the wall. It is not a change to the building structure. It is listed with CSA here: http://www.csagroup.org/ca/en/services/testing-and-certification/certified-product-listing/certficate/108270_0_000%257C3812-81 |
Product description
Decrease drying times and eliminate dangerous lint build up in your dryer system. This Dryer Booster Fan helps boost the performance of clothes dryers by allowing the dryer to more effectively exhaust the moist air created during the drying process. Long or zig-zagging duct runs can hamper the dryer's ability to get rid of the moist air in the drum. This means you are drying your clothes with damp air and if lint that gets past the lint trap isn't properly exhausted completely out of the system it can build up and become a major fire hazard. Includes instructions, hardware packet and mounting bracket.

Question: | Is this product UL 705 listed or have other certification |
Answer: | Yes , This product meets UL705 DEDPV requirements. and complies with International Residential Code requirements and is made in USA. |
Question: | Can it be mounted verticaly |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Dryer vent runs from back of dryer along tge floor behind washing machine about 4 ft then straight up 6ft through the ceiling into attic. Can I attan |
Answer: | I had a carpenter install a T booster fan in my attic, as my dryer is located on an interior wall, with no access to exterior wall, so carpenter installed exhaust thru roof with big U shaped plastic pipe out. so far, no lint on shingles or problem with dryer overheating. carpenter installed on/off switch and timer switch above my dryer. I can set timer longer than I think it will take to dry load, and fan will cut off. I can turn booster fan off completely if I might think there was a problem with booster fan, but still be able to use the dryer until carpenter came to repair ? |
Question: | Does it automatically come on with the dryer |
Answer: | No it does not. It needs to be wire to 115vac thru one of three ways. 1) simplest is a on/off switch. But you need to remember to shut it off. 2) thru a timer switch which goes off automatically. 3) thru a current sensor (950-9351 ) this is the best way then DBF2 wiil go on off with dryer. But you definitly need electrician to install & hook it up. Good Luck , Frank |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long of a wire does the sensor come with |
Answer: | The sensor comes with no wire. It works on the existing wire running to the dryer but will also need to be connected to a wired 110/120 volt outlet that the blower motor plugs into which if you dont currently have at the location you mount the blower motor, will need to be done. So you will need to know the distance from either your electrical breaker box to the blower motor (routing past the sensor mounted at the dryer) or if you have an existing 110/120v outlet near the dryer that you can tap into and run to the sensor and then down to the blower motor. |
Question: | Installed 6-28-2017; Installed a lint trap right before it. By 3rd load of laundry fan is hot, stops by itself w laundry still running, Defective |
Answer: | Mine is 2 yrs old & works perfectly. Also have lint trap above the dryer & clean it after every load. Amazed at how much gets by the primary filter. Maybe your filters are plugged or something is stuck in the fan itself. If not that sounds like it's defective. Wiring OK? |
Question: | Will this vent clog with lint? Did you require an electrician to wire |
Answer: | I have this installed for about a year now, and not had any lent problems. This came with a plug on it, so all I did was plug it into a power strip and I turn it on every time we run the dryer . Hope this helps |
Question: | Does it come with a mounting bracket |
Answer: | Yes, mounting bracket is included. It is the silver part next to the cord in the picture. |

Tjernlund M-49504351 In-Line Fan with Current Sensor Switch Dryer Duct Booster
If your dryer is not close to an outside wall and the exhaust pipes has to snake throughout the home to vent to the outside your clothes dryer's performance will suffer. The fan within the dryer is only so powerful and adding a dryer booster fan will decrease drying times, especially with heavy loads like towels, blankets, etc.
Also, add this to have the booster fan decrease lint build up (and the risk of dryer fires) by keeping the lint moving at 1200 FPM so it doesn't stick to the vent pipe.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be turned on manually |
Answer: | No. It has a pressure switch that turns it on and off. |
Question: | I installed the fan, and now it runs non stop. I tried a couple of things with sensor hose placement and it still just runs. Any ideas |
Answer: | The fan does run much longer than you might anticipate, but it should shut off eventually. I have no installation tips or other ideas. It did work well for us, despite the long-running fan. |
Question: | Can this be installed horizontally? We just put our washer/dryer in the garage and need to run the hose from the dryer 15 feet to the wall |
Answer: | I installed mine about 10 feet from dryer. Horizontally. The vent continued on another 12 feet. Works great as long as you keep your lint filter very clean. |
Question: | Can I use this right next to my dryer or does it have to be 15ft away |
Answer: | Uuuuugly! This question appears to have come from one that doesn't want to get into a wall or attic. Will it work, I guess, will it do what it was intended right out of the dryer no, or not as well if manufacturers instructions were obeyed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm thinking of buying one but will I still be able to have my duct cleaned after it is installed? I'm the thinking it will be in the way |
Answer: | It probably will be in the way. My handyman chose to detach it to clean the duct and then reattach it. It wasn't a major job. |
Question: | can this be used with gas dryer |
Answer: | It is activated by the pressure in the exhaust tube and runs on it's own hard wired power supply. I did not see anything on the product description that specifies that it cannot be used with a gas dryer. You could always contact Fantech Customer support: Customer Care10048 Industrial BlvdLenexa KS 66215Tel: 800.747.1762Fax: [email protected] |
Question: | Do you nnee a lint catcher with this? Or will you be fine without it |
Answer: | The rationale behind 15 ft... If your vent fan is 15 ft or more from your dryer then the lint coming from the dryer will be dry enough such that it will not stick to the vent fan blades and later create imbalance, increased load, and inefficiency. The lint needs to be fairly dry when it reaches the fan blades. If the fan is within 15 ft of the dryer the lint will still be damp and a lint trap will be needed. Get the fan at least 15 ft away from the dryer and no lint trap is needed. Note... If you do get a lint trap make sure you measure the dimensions. It may be deeper than your wall you plan to mount it in. If I remember right the lint trap is around 7 inches deep and many walls are not that deep. |
Question: | I purchased 32 of these for a new apartment building. 10 of them run continuously. Does anyone know how to fix this or are they defective |
Answer: | From memory, and I'm guessing here ... the switch diaphragm must be mounted vertically. The switch is activated by airflow throw the plastic tube (it's a clear tube on mine) that runs from the bottom of the fan housing up to the electrical components. Take that tube out of the housing and plug it (tape the end). Let it sit that way for 10-15 minutes and see if it still runs.If it still runs and never shuts off, you may have a defective switch. If it stops, your switch is probably good. I believe I remember that moving that tube further in/out of the housing can adjust the sensitivity. Meaning I think if you slide the tube into the housing further, the switch will activate more quickly/easily. If you pull the tube as far as it can go without taking it out completely makes it less sensitive. If you have some continuous source of airflow, obviously, the fan will blow all the time. But I thought the switch was set to stop at 10 minute intervals and never continuously run - not sure - I thought I remember this feature. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I would need to install this 3 feet away from the dryer, does anyone think this could work |
Answer: | The instructions clearly state that you need to install the fan a minimum of 15 equivalent feet away from the dryer but you could place it 8 feet from the dryer but only if you install a secondary lint trap 4 feet from the dryer. The distances change based on the total length of vent pipe but all that information is in the instructions. |
Question: | Does the LB2 turn off more consistently than the LB |
Answer: | I don't know because I've never used the LB1. Sorry |
Question: | What is the difference between lb1 and lb |
Answer: | I looked on the Tjernlund website and they do not even list making/selling the LB1 model. I was able to find a spec sheet on it and from what I can tell they are the same. My guess is they changed something (maybe like the motor) and gave it a new model number LB2. I have the LB2 and it works great. |
Question: | can i install this unit behind the dryer |
Answer: | No. There's a chart that you have to use to calculate the distance from the dryer to the booster based on the total length of the duct work. See this link for installation instructions, the information you need is on page one. http://www.tjernlund.com/Tjernlund_LB2_Dryer_Duct_Booster_8504216.pdf |

Clothes dryers are often installed in areas of homes where they cannot work effectively leading to long drying times, high energy use, and lint buildup in duct work. If a dryer’s exhaust duct run is over 25 equivalent feet* moist air cannot effectively exit the dryer and exhaust to the outside—bogging down the entire drying process.
If a dryer’s exhaust duct run is over 25 equivalent feet and the dryer is experiencing long drying time, your dryer may need a Dryer Duct Booster fan. The Dryer Duct Booster can also reduce the potential fire hazard associated with lint buildup.

User questions & answers
Question: | How loud is the fan |
Answer: | Equal to a bath fan |
Question: | Has anybody used this dryer booster with a gas dryer? I just bought this dryer and it has a CRITICAL WARNING in bold to use only with electric dryer |
Answer: | All I can say is there is a reason they say ELECTRIC only.... that being said if you can install it as far as possible from the dryer... ie: where the vent goes out the roof... it would most likely not be a problem... but the device is NOT Intrinsically Safe so using it on a gas Dryer could be an issue. I have one on my Electric Dryer and it solved the issue with a long vent pipe run causing the dryer heat coil to shut down due to overheating... |
Question: | My whole vent is done in 3" pvc. Could I put a 3" to 4" reducer on either side of this unit |
Answer: | You can do that but it will reduce the air movement. They do make a 3 inch model, I would locate that model. |
Question: | what is the air flow rate of this dryer booster |
Answer: | The product description is 200 cfm fan....that is the air flow. I would suggest the buyer search the manufacturer's site for product installation instructions to get verify if the unit work in the particular situation. Ex: min or max distance from the dryer for the booster location, and airflow compared to the output of the dryer. |
