My refrigerator is a Frigidaire LGHT1837LP4 which is your basic top and bottom with the freezer on top. I only have one thermostat control in the refrigerator section. It turns on the compressor/evaporator and fan which cools the freezer as well as the lower refrigerator section. You may want to Google your refrigerator model's parts manual to study. Defrosting is controlled buy a separate timer. I bought a different brand from Amazon that went bad in a half year. This one has been running with no problems for over a year now. You also may want to by yourself a refrigerator thermometer so you can monitor the temperature inside the refrigerator.
